Abstract
In spoken language, when two people are conversing with each other, they often omit some expressions but the addressee still understands it well. In other words, it can be said that the conversations expressed by the addressor and addressee coherent even though it is not cohesive. The problems stated here are (1) what are the non cohesive utterances found in the dialogue of the drama A Streetcar Named Desire;(2) How does the addressee do the perlocutionary act of the non cohesive utterances from the dialogue in drama A Streetcar Named Desire. Where as the objectives of this study are (1) To describe the non cohesive utterances which are found in the drama entitled A Streetcar Named Desire (2) To explain how the addressee does the perlocutionary act based on non cohesive utterances found in the dialogue in drama A Streetcar Named Desire. The research method applied in this study was a descriptive qualitative. This is taken with the consideration that it is used to describe the existing phenomena as they are mentioned in the formulation of problem statement. The result of this study shows that is found out that some utterances found in the dialogue A Streetcar Named Desire are not cohesive but they are still coherent because they seem not relevant to the question given but both parties; addressor and addressee still understand them well and the conversation automatically runs well.
