Abstract

This thesis is the study of the disparity of social welfare in Panem towards social upheaval in The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The problems that arise in this is (1). What the causes of the disparity of social welfare in Panem are (2) What the effects of the disparity of social welfare towards the relationship between the government of Capitol and the Districts Citizens are. The disparity of social welfare becomes the main theme of this trilogy and causes some significant distinction between the poor and the rich. In order to answer the problems, this writer applies qualitative research and the steps to analyse the data is by applying close reading, segmenting and quoting the findings from the novels. Therefore, the result of this study showed that the causes of the disparity are the historical background of the beginning of Panem and the capitalism of the Capitol as the ruling city of Panem. While the effects of the disparity are the rebellion of the districts people towards the Capitol, the downfall of the District Twelve, the death of the ruthless President of Panem, and the equality of social life in Panem.
