Abstract

A society or a nation faces the same problem where the people choose their leader to lead them to achieve community goals. However, the issue lies from the leader itself because a leader can use the authority given to obtain personal gain and that eventually leads to power abuse. This research focuses on the power abuse as depicted in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. This study aimed toward finding the factors that transformed the leader’s personality and how power is abused in the story. Using Eysenck personality diagram helps the researcher to determine what Napoleon’s personality is leaning towards to. This research uses narrative research, a part of a qualitative method that explains how to understand people, culture, and societies. The result found that in abusing power, Napoleon’s personality was mostly affected by his own desire that came from himself.
