Beauty concept traps women to follow society ideals. The beauty concept in America and most western societies have been an overall slim with light eyes and long straight hair. so they should fulfil what the beauty concept wants. Though damaging, it is socially> even morally it still acceptable to support our life with beauty concept. Women live in stressful times to show how their bodies look. Driven by guilt and shame, many women castigate themselves by doing strict diet and even doing a plastic surgery to achieve the standard of beauty without thinking about the dangers that will happen to their body. Scott Westerfeld wrote a novel related to the concept of beauty entitled Uglies. This study used new criticism theory to answer statement of the problem. The purpose of this study is b reveal the concept of ideal beauty presented inside the novel. The concept of ideal beauty in this story becomes interesting because it can only be reached through plastic surgery; thus, it will be appropriate to apply beauty myth theory by Naomi Wolf in analyzing this novel.
