Abstract
This study explores the intricate tapestry of romance symbols in Harry Styles' songs using psychoanalysis through the lens of archetypes. Acknowledging literature as a realm of imagination, the study unveils hidden layers of meaning within the lyrics, emphasizing the centrality of symbols. Three research questions guide the investigation: How are romance symbols depicted in seventeen song lyrics by Harry Styles? What are the meanings of these symbols? And what is the overall meaning of each song through the lens of archetypes? Employing psychoanalysis as the approach, the findings reveal that romance symbols manifest in song structures and diverse forms such as color, place, and food symbols. Beyond cliché expressions, these symbols in Harry Styles' work transcend youthful love, offering profound insights into human psychology related to love, longing, heartbreak, and personal growth. This study, grounded in relevant ideas and sources, deepens our appreciation of Styles' creative brilliance and the enduring power of literature in music, showcasing the complexity of romance symbolism in modern songs.
