Abstract
This research highlights the importance of academic writing in academic discourse which is thesis. This study examines the persuasive techniques and structure of the argument used by the debaters in National University Debate Championship (NUDC) and World University Debate Championship (WUDC). Thus, the statements of the problems are what kinds of particular persuasive technique used in the final round of National University Debate Championship (NUDC) and World University Debate Championship (WUDC) are and what kinds of argument structure used by the winner teams in the final round of National University Debate Championship (NUDC) and World University Debate Championship (WUDC) are. Then, persuasive types by Aristotle and argument structure types are used to analyze the data collection. Moreover, the findings show two things. First, all debaters use all types of persuasive techniques and argument structure types with particular type as the most used one. Second, all debaters have strong reasoning that back ups their claims whereas comes in structured argument.
