Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to describe female masculinity presented in the novel Atiq Rahimi’s Patience Stone. Female masculinity is a form of social phenomenon that can be seen in psychological and sociological perspective. There, female, as the main character is told with all sorrow, forced marrying, marrying with a photo, until she has to make pregnant with regardless the way and she has baby from another person she never knows. In this case make female want to open her mouth to express a truth what her experienced. Forward, this problem finally is represented to a literary work, and one of it is Atiq Rahimi‟s Patience Stone. Based on the facts, it delivers two main questions as the response of problems, there are two statements of problems which include how traits and gender roles describe female masculinity in the Novel. This thesis used the qualitative descriptive approach. As the result of this, it finds something that she has trait and role in female masculinity. The trait such conscientiousness, neuroticism, agreeableness, self-esteem and self-oriented. Forward, role as assertiveness, being tough, tenderness and compassion. Furthermore, it indicates that female have the same rights to think as in the story of Afghan female in novel Atiq Rahimi’s Patience Stone.
